A true king is not the one with the most servants, but the one who serves the most! Therefore, the greatest among us... They are servants!

–Mustard's inspirational speech to Null, Annoying Villagers 47

Mustard (/ˈmʌstərd/), the Iron Golem Wielder, formerly the Villager in the Blue Robe and Villager Noble of the North District, is a major anti-hero in Annoying Villagers series.

Continuing his life as a rogue villager, he had once been an upper-class villager in the Villager Kingdom. Exiled, Mustard got affiliated with Herobrine Forces to gain revenge on the Villager Kingdom and his ideals for peace between the villagers, players and mobs alike. Eventually, Mustard betrayed Herobrine Forces with newfound technology to follow Notch and "be the light that shines upon the darkness." His character evolves from an anti-hero to a major protagonist in the series.

He is voiced by MrFudgeMonkeyz, alike to all male characters in the series.

Appearance

Mustard is physically the same with other standard villagers in Minecraft, the difference between him and other villagers lies in his outfits: he originally wore a blue robe to signify his rank as an upper-class villager before being banished. He later swapped it with another villager for a brown robe, to which he then obtained a black garbage bag shortly after, which he currently wears. Among his physical appearances, the most notable point is that at most times he bears a symbolic sinister smile or crazed expression on his face.

Personality

A crazy genius of strategy, Mustard is cunning and highly intelligent, being able to see through intentions of his enemies and crush their plots, make them fear, or at least, escape successfully without getting harmed at all when he cannot fully handle them. As thus, he is good at the tactical deployment of troops, being able to understand the situation clearly as well as apply various strategy cleverly. Another strong point of him when comparing with most other characters is his wide range of powerful acquaintances like Herobrine, Null, and Notch.

He is a proud, verbose, and selfish egoist, believing everything he does is righteous and under any circumstances, he considers the benefit for no one but himself. This character of his is demonstrated clearly as seen on his acts, for example, when he murdered a Villager Chief cold-bloodlessly. He is a double-dealer, being arrogant to the Villager people from lower classes, treating them as nothing but consumables, meanwhile acting humbly towards those with power while plotting in secret to manipulate them and eventually betraying them after fully making use of them. He is mostly dedicated in overthrowing the regime of the Villager King, for his own good of course, though he claims that he is fighting for the greater good, for the Villager King's beliefs, rulings and teachings are wrong, and that it makes the villagers uneducated, impure and suffering.

Mustard has mixed traits of astuteness and craftiness, combined with behaving very erratically and weird. Because of his nature, he is seen to be a very verbose person, always talking and does not take some situations very seriously. On these occasions, he makes abnormal body movements and maniacal screams, like villager commoners such as Boop, though this behavior may be interpreted as tricks to confuse his rivals. Aside from this, Mustard hates dancing. Additionally, it is directly implied by Mustard himself that he has been playing ignorant until his final fight against Null. This could mean he's been faking his personality, or more so because his original backstory was erased and his new history has created a new character persona for him.

Mustard's character deeply evolves, sharing his proposal for equality within all unity and his future for the Villager Kingdom. He was showcased as a timid and very bright villager, who had grown as a person with heroic morals to the present day trying to find the truth, much like Steve. Deprived of his inner physiological thinking and pre-diminished understanding of the world, he eventually succumbs into his own mental illness, the cause of his own sadistic thinking and past experiences that have tormented him. Once he gets support from Notch, he decided his destiny for the betterment of the world and to do good.

It is not confirmed, but given the strange mood changes, Mustard may have some sort of mental illness, but this may be completely false.

Skills and Abilities

Mustard vs Null

Mustard doesn't seem to be a good fighter on his own but he carries his spell book, an enchanted shovel and a knife in his inventory space along with various other things. He is however good at manipulating and influencing others in one way or another.

Main Article: Golemancy

Mustard essentially takes the characteristics of a golemancer, not attacking directly himself, but by spawning and controlling his Iron Golems and their body pats through various enchanted blocks, pumpkins and ender eyes from an arcane spell book he carries at all times. Each golem has their own personality and traits that are unique to them, and can 'level up' in skill with more combat experience they have.

Among his golem spells are the following.

Mustard also seems to possess Herobrine Items such as various Ender Eyes, Golden Apples, Destruction Eyes and most notably Obsidian. He most likely obtained these during the time he was serving the Herobrine Forces, or he got the items from his betrayal.

Trivia

  • Mustard was originally banished from the Villager Kingdom for killing the Villager King's brother (Annoying Villagers 6), although as of Annoying Villagers 46, this may have been retconned.
  • The end of Annoying Villagers 47 revealed that the Herobrine vessels gathered progress from the fight with Mustard, so now it is likely that Herobrine can now counter his powers.
  • Mustard's golemancy capabilities are likely inspired by the Extra Golems Mod.
  • Mustard has broken the fourth wall in Annoying Villagers 30 by saying "You’re still as rude as ever! And we’re supposed to have our pre-fight dialogue first!" to Shadow Herobrine.
